A Great Gift Idea for Your Young Entrepreneur

Several months ago I wrote about the Secret Millionaires Club, a website that teaches kids about how to start a business and how to handle money. Warren Buffett helped create the site and his character, actually voiced by Buffett, stars in the animated videos on the site.  It is a great resource for teaching kids about business and personal finance.

Now there is a book to go along with the website. The book is called How to Start Your Very First Business. It teaches kids everything they need to know about starting a business.  I was impressed with the thoroughness of the book.  It has chapters on everything from how to decide what kind of business to start, where to locate your business, how to brand and market your business, how to create a business plan, and how to get money to help grow your business.

One of my favorite parts about the book is the stories of real kids who started successful businesses. The book is full of these real-life examples.  I found them both interesting and inspiring.  The book is also peppered with quotes by Warren Buffett himself.

As a bonus the book comes with a Square Reader which plugs into a smart phone. This allows young entrepreneurs the ability to take credit cards as payment in their fledgling businesses.

The book is aimed at entrepreneurs from about 7-8 years of age to about 14 years of age. However, the advice is timeless and could benefit anyone interested in starting a business.  The book is also a great bargain.  It is selling on Amazon.com for only $10.91, which is about what you would pay for the Square Reader alone.

I have copy of the book that I would love to give away to someone who would put it to good use. If you are a young entrepreneur let me know about your business plans or ideas.  If you know someone who could benefit from this book leave a comment to this article telling me a little bit about who the book would go to and how it might be used.  From the comments I will pick someone to give the book to.

You never know. Getting this book in the right hands could help launch a successful business like some of the kid-started businesses highlighted in the book.  Giving this book to your young entrepreneur could be the start of something big.

    Hey Brent,

I don’t know if this is still in the runnings. But, I would be very interested in reading this book. I have plans to be a financial advisor, and I would love to learn more about starting up my own business so I can one day open up my own firm to help individuals and families with their financial needs.
